Men's Pelvic Health
Men’s health encompasses various conditions across the lifespan, including issues affecting the spine, extremities (upper or lower), and pelvic floor. Pelvic floor dysfunction, often mistakenly viewed as a female-only concern, also affects men, leading to problems such as pain and urinary leakage. In fact, research indicates that up to 1 in 10 men may experience bladder or sexual function problems. Importantly, studies show that physical therapy can effectively improve both bladder control and sexual function in men.

Questions about your
First pelvic health
physical therapy visit?

How to get started
Thanks to the passage of the Direct Access bill in 2014, patients in California can be evaluated and treated by a licensed physical therapist without a physician’s referral. At Rausch Physical Therapy, you can come directly to us for a wide range of concerns, including aches, pains, sprains, and more—allowing for faster care, improved outcomes, and cost savings. In certain cases, a physician’s evaluation may still be required, which is why we collaborate closely with some of the top doctors in the area to ensure you receive the most comprehensive care possible.
Premium Physical Therapy
Enjoy extended one-on-one sessions with a dedicated physical therapist, including targeted exercises and advanced modalities to accelerate healing, training, and overall wellness. Ask your therapist today about upgrading to a premium physical therapy session.
How to prepare for your first appointment?
For your first visit at Rausch PT & Wellness, please bring a valid ID, your insurance card, any referral information (if applicable), and relevant imaging or medical reports. A list of medications and any surgical reports or protocols are also helpful. If you have Medicare, a prescription is required prior to your visit.
Please arrive about 10 minutes early and wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement. It can also be helpful to come prepared with notes about your symptoms- when they started, what makes them better or worse, and your goals for therapy.
Your initial visit will include a detailed discussion of your history and symptoms, a physical evaluation, and the development of a personalized treatment plan.
For pelvic physical therapy patients, your therapist may assess related areas such as your hips, low back, posture, breathing, and core. An internal pelvic floor exam may be offered; however, it is not the same as a gynecologic exam and will only be performed with your consent. You are always in control of your care, you may decline or postpone the exam, ask questions, request a chaperone, bring a support person, or stop the exam at any time.
If you are pregnant, please bring a note or referral from your provider clearing you of any contraindications prior to an internal pelvic floor muscle exam.
You may also want to prepare a few questions ahead of time, such as whether an internal exam is recommended during your first visit, what may be contributing to your symptoms, and what you can do at home between sessions.

Pelvic PT During and After Pregnancy
Pelvic floor physical therapy can be incredibly helpful both during pregnancy and after delivery by supporting the muscles, joints, and connective tissues that change throughout the prenatal and postpartum journey. During pregnancy, pelvic floor PT can help manage symptoms such as pelvic pain, low back pain, pressure, urinary leakage, and core weakness, and also prepare the body for labor and delivery through breathing techniques, mobility work, and pelvic floor awareness. After birth, it can aid recovery by addressing issues like perineal pain, abdominal weakness, diastasis recti, scar tissue restrictions, incontinence, pelvic heaviness, and pain with daily activities or intimacy. With personalized education, manual therapy, and targeted exercise, Rausch PT & Wellness’ team helps patients feel stronger, more supported, and more confident as they prepare for birth and heal postpartum.
